Behind the Business: How the Women in Business Grant is Helping Us Grow with Purpose.

Growth in business is exciting, but it also asks you to pause, reflect and make intentional decisions about what comes next. For The Outsource Boutique, being awarded the Lord Mayor’s Women in Business Grant has created the opportunity to do exactly that.

Since starting the business in 2017, The Outsource Boutique has grown from a solo operation into a Brisbane-based, all-female team of five. What began as task based administration support for busy business owners has evolved into a broader offering across executive business support, event management, association support, membership coordination, communications and operational delivery.

As the business has grown, so has the need to communicate more clearly who we are, what we do and the value we bring to the organisations we support. The grant has allowed us to invest in professional photo and video marketing content that better reflects the business we are today. It has encouraged us to step back and look at our own business in the same way we often support our clients: strategically, practically and with a focus on long-term growth.

Growth needs structure

One of the biggest lessons in business growth is that momentum alone is not enough.

As your client base grows, your services expand and your team becomes larger, the backend of the business needs to keep up. Systems, processes, communication, brand positioning and client delivery all need to work together.

This is something we see often in the businesses, associations and organisations we support. Many are doing great work, but the operational load behind the scenes can become heavy. Inboxes become busier, events become more complex, membership communication needs more consistency, and the day-to-day coordination can start taking time away from bigger-picture priorities.

Visibility matters in a service-based business

When you provide a service, people are not just buying a task list. They are trusting the people behind the business. For The Outsource Boutique, our work is often behind the scenes. We are the team supporting inboxes, coordinating events, preparing communications, managing member enquiries, liaising with stakeholders, updating CRMs, keeping projects moving and helping business owners stay focused on what matters most.

The photo and video content funded through the grant will help us show more of the people behind the business. It will allow us to better communicate the professional, capable and collaborative team our clients work with every day.

It also gives us the opportunity to move beyond outdated perceptions of what a virtual assistant or outsourced support provider does. The Outsource Boutique is not just about ticking off admin tasks. We provide experienced, local support across executive operations, events, associations and communications.

Supporting our next stage

The grant has also come at an important time for our business. We have recently added two casual staff members to the team, bringing The Outsource Boutique to a team of five women with experience across a range of corporate, administrative, event and operational environments. This growth gives us greater capacity, flexibility and continuity for our clients. It also reflects the kind of business we are continuing to build: one that supports other organisations to grow, while creating meaningful and flexible work opportunities for skilled women.

Being awarded the Lord Mayor’s Women in Business Grant has been a valuable milestone for The Outsource Boutique. It has given us the opportunity to invest in our visibility, strengthen our brand presence and prepare for the next stage of growth.

Most importantly, it has reminded us that growth is not just about getting bigger. It is about becoming clearer, stronger and more intentional. As we continue to evolve, our focus remains the same: providing trusted, local support to organisations that need experienced hands, calm coordination and practical support behind the scenes.
