What Do you do? I change lives!

It's always not too long into a social situation with new people, that the question of "what do you" arises. The most common response is a job title, or the name of the company they work for, but you still don't know what it is that they do. Some are obvious, Fireman, Dentist, Bank Manager, Kindy Teacher, Pharmacist, Real Estate Agent and so many more. However, sometimes it's not easy to sum up what you do in a couple of words. Virtual Assistant isn't really specific, and so many people conjure up ideas of someone working overseas for $4/hour. Some VA’s look after finance, graphic design, girl Friday, data entry, appointment setting, and so many more tasks - it is a rather motherhood title. So, what is it that I do?

Helping others gives me purpose ... I enjoy changing lives one person at a time.

Before I answer that question, let's take it back a few steps and tell you my story.

A couple of years ago, I decided to return to the workforce. The kids were now both in school, and an opportunity had crossed my path that I thought would give me some purpose and an added bonus, extra income for our family. However, what started out as school hours and flexible soon took over my life, and I was working a 60-70 hour week. I was no longer present with my husband and children, even though we sat in the same room. I shut out friends, declined social commitments and left myself isolated. My thoughts were constantly on my work, and how to tackle the ever growing lists of work-related tasks still incomplete, along with stressing about meeting my KPI's to keep my job. I really needed someone to take the little jobs off my to-do list, and I could focus on my clients.

Unfortunately, management couldn't afford to give me an assistant and the existing staff were already stretched to the limit. My stress levels were peaking, my body was sending me signals that I wasn't coping and my health was at an all time low. I took a brave leap of faith in myself, and quit my job. There had to be a better way for me to have an income and be a better mother, wife and friend.

So after a period of reflection, taking up meditation, getting back into my running and chatting with friends, I was still at a loss what to do with myself. Then it dawned on me to look into my strengths. I love organisation, I have an intense passion to help other people, and I have a strong background in executive assistance and administration. Just like that, in a lightbulb moment, I realised that I can offer the business support to others that I could have done with, on an as-needs basis.

Now back to your question, as to what it is I do. I offer business support and personal assistance to busy people, small business owners, and anyone else that needs a little help to deal with the small stuff that is holding them back from achieving more from their day. I help others to focus their talents on what they do best to grow their business; by taking on the tasks that consume their time and hinder their efforts to accomplish goals and achieve business success.

My business is 100% me; and I couldn’t be more proud. I have clients that are relieved I am the one completing the work and that I am not farming their work on to sub-contractors; they are comforted by my strong ethics, loyalty and honesty. My business plan isn’t about growing to be a 6 figure giant, with multiple employees; I value the personal touch I can make on my clients lives.

The best part is, that I am more available for family, and I have found that helping others gives me purpose. I really enjoy getting to the end of the week, sitting with my glass of red, surrounded by my husband and two young daughters, and reflecting upon my week; realising that I enjoy changing the lives of others, one person at a time.
